Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position. Such a heavy burden now to be the One. Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending, To write it down for all the world to see. But I forgot my pen. Shit the bed again. Typical.

A Poor Attempt at Hacking

Posted by Back-Door-Baron Oct. 15, 2009 @ 10:14 PM EDT

So recently there was an attack on my account. I receive an email giving me my NG User ID and password, then receive a message on my secondary email giving me my logon to my primary email. It made me wonder-- why would someone make such a poor attempt to steal my Newgrounds account? It's not like I really do much with it anymore. I haven't posted in the BBS in probably over a year, I haven't reviewed an entry in multiple years, I'm of middling level and B/P, so why even try to steal it? I found it amusing more than a threat.

But then I started wondering-- maybe I have an alter ego? Maybe there's a Tyler Durden of the Back-Door-Baron out there that is just trying to log in and deposit some experience. Should I let him in, or blow him out of my mind and become myself again, an alias of a person no one except maybe some frequenters of Newgrounds back in 2004 know anything about.

Then I realized this pitiful hacker may just be a shadow image of a shadow. Is that why the attempt to steal my account was so bad? Could it be that my alias' alter ego is so removed from reality that he can't even give a realistic attempt to win his existence? I debated just putting my information out there, seeing if he could at least pick up on something so blatant. But then I thought on the off chance that it's just some stupid kid trying to get a mediocre account, I don't want to give them the pleasure. While I may have middling stats, I have had this account for over 5 years and would like to keep it for a while longer. But maybe if it is my alter ego's alter ego, one day I will confront him and ask him one question: Why, if you're so hell bent on taking over your alter ego, was the attack so pathetic?
